2013 Commencement

 

Graduation Day Information

School of Education Graduates & Bachelor of General Studies Graduates,

We look forward to seeing you at Commencement on Saturday, May 11th. Please review the following instructions:

Doctoral Candidate Hooding (Friday, May 10th)

The Doctoral Hooding Ceremony will take place at 7:30 p.m. in the Ford Center for the Performing Arts. Visit http://www.olemiss.edu/commencement for more information.

Morning Ceremony

Graduates participating in the morning ceremony should line up in front of the Cochran National Products Center (Pharmacy School) by 8:30 a.m. Faculty will be available to assist you in lining up and during the processional.

 

School of Education Ceremony

Our School of Education Commencement will follow the morning ceremony in the Grove-Main Stage. The processional will begin promptly at 11:00 a.m., and candidates for degrees must be present no later than 10:15 a.m. Signs for your program area will be posted near the Walk of Champions, which is in front of the Student Union. Staff will be available to assist you in finding your place in the processional line. If you have already received your "reader's card" please remember to bring it with you. If you do not have a reader's card, they will be distributed to you on site in the line-up. (Note: this is the card you will hand to the faculty reader for your name to be called as you walk across the stage to receive your diploma cover).

**Please note: Graduates may want to bring a bottle water to have during the ceremony as it is often hot outside, particularly while you are in your regalia of cap and gown.

 

Inclement Weather

In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will take place in the Tad Smith Coliseum at 5 p.m. Candidates should be present no later than 4:15 p.m. Look for program signs around Portal 11 for line up.

Education Minor

(18 Credit Hours)

 

Purpose: To enlighten the general public about the teaching profession with the goal of developing a k-12 educationally literate populace. Issues in education related to pedagogy, child development, philosophy, and foundations are focus areas of this minor.

Students wanting to get a minor in Education must take the following courses:

  • EDFD 209 Foundations in Education (3)
  • EDSP 308 Introduction to Special Education (3)
  • EDAV 427 Educational Technology (3)
  • And 9 additional hours of education courses at the 300 level or higher.

 

Math Education Minor

(18 Credit Hours)

 

[Note:] The Math Education minor is not approved for majors within the College of Liberal Arts.

Students wanting to get a minor in Math Education must take the following courses:

  • EDFD 209 Foundations in Education (3)
  • EDSP 308 Introduction to Special Education (3)
  • EDSE 410 Seminar in Secondary Education (3)
  • Math 245 Mathematics for Elementary Teachers I (3)
  • Math 246 Mathematics for Elementary Teachers II (3)
  • Math 390 Techniques in Teaching Secondary Math (3)
