Job Summary: The Program Coordinator is the Mississippi Council on Economic Education's (MCEE) support position for building, fostering and maintaining relationships that are part of our mission as it relates to K-12 economic education in Mississippi. This position works to involve people in meaningful ways that promote economic education awareness and program delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Program Support (70% time): With direction from the President and Director/VP, manage K-12 professional development programs and student programs for educators and students as they relate to economics.
    • Assist with the planning of professional development for K-12 educators
    • Assist with the execution of student programs, i.e. Economics Challenge (online and in-person), International Economic Summit and Awards Ceremony
    • Plan and execute the Stock Market Game
    • Assist with the marketing of programs to include social media, press releases, newsletters and ads
    • Gather and report data on all teacher and student programs at the state and national level to include participants, volunteers, program results, friends and CEE.
    • Post event management to include thank you letters, CEUs, track MTE and MTEnt progress, stipends, and obtain pre and post test scores from teachers for their students.
    • Office support to include mail, phone, maintenance requests, master calendar, and office supplies.
    • Assist as needed with special events, i.e. Forum on American Enterprise, Day at the Capitol and Open House.
  2. Community and Volunteer Engagement (20% time): Foster meaningful relationships with community members that will increase the awareness of programs, services, and advocacy and fundraising opportunities available for economic and entrepreneurship education.
    • Coordinate MCEE presence at state level conferences for K-12 educators
    • Develop and maintain marketing efforts to increase awareness of economic education programming
    • Arrange for state leaders to visit classrooms and student programs in order to participate and observe economic and entrepreneurship education at work (e.g., US Senators and
    • Representatives, MS Senators and Representatives, statewide elected officials, MDE leaders).
    • Identify K-12 classrooms in need of volunteer engagement and coordinate the relationship between volunteers and teachers via Invest It Forward
    • Engage volunteers, effectively communicating and facilitating meaningful opportunities as it relates to economic education
    • Recognize the contributions of all volunteers.
    • Track and report on successful volunteer/teacher relationships.
  3. Fundraising and Donor Relations (10%)
    • Report on data to assist with writing of interim and final reports to donors
    • Arrange for donors to visit classrooms and student programs in order to participate and observe economics education at work.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's Degree
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word, Publisher, Access, PowerPoint); Adobe Acrobat and Photoshop; Constant Contact; Survey Monkey; Classmarker.
  • The successful candidate will be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously, build strong collaborative relationships, and be able to set and meet deadlines.
  • Must be highly organized and self-motivated to plan programs well in advance.
  • A minimal amount of travel and work during the evening and weekends is required.

MCEE's purpose is to enhance the quality of instruction in economics, entrepreneurship, and personal finance to Mississippi's K-12 students in ways that are academically sound and nonpartisan. We train teachers to be proficient in teaching students a demonstrated understanding of economic and financial literacy in order to make informed financial decisions throughout their lives.
All students (K-12) need to learn grade-appropriate skills in economic and financial literacy, as well as entrepreneurial skills. One of the primary goals of MCEE is to ensure demonstrated progress in improving the competency of Mississippi's teachers and their ability to enhance their students' understanding of financial and economic literacy.

MCEE strives to provide the best possible economics, financial literacy, and entrepreneurial education in Mississippi, working together with the national Council for Economic Education, Mississippi Department of Education, Centers on Economic Education, and its additional partners in the education and business communities throughout the state. MCEE will be guided by integrity, fiscal soundness, good stewardship of the funding, and believing in teachers and students to achieve their optimal level of financial understanding.
