Middle School Mathematics Teacher
Employer: St. Andrew Episcopal School
Location: Ridgeland, MS
St. Andrew's Episcopal School in Ridgeland a PK3-12 independent school, invites applications for a full-time position teaching Mathematics in the Middle School Division – in particular a course in which students learn mathematics through reading, writing, and experiential activities that provide the foundation for real life application and multidisciplinary problem solving.
The Mathematics Department seeks a colleague who is a professional, team-oriented, lifelong learner. The ideal candidate will be passionate about teaching (particularly about working with middle school students), be technologically savvy, and have an interest in cultivating the problem solving abilities of students rather than just teaching them problem types. The candidate should be prepared to provide exposure to topics including algebra, geometry, probability, and statistics as well as facilitate the use of both visual and abstract models. A Bachelor’s degree is required, with a Master’s in Mathematics or Mathematics Education strongly preferred. The ideal candidate will have significant classroom teaching experience, preferably with multiple levels of Middle School math using Math in Focus.
The position will be part of both the Mathematics Department and the Middle School faculty. Composed of grades 5-8, the Middle School Division includes approximately 340 students and 40 faculty members located on the North Campus in Ridgeland, Mississippi. St. Andrew’s Middle School offers a challenging, integrated curriculum that meets the developmental needs and interests of adolescents. Middle School students learn to relate abstract concepts to practical applications and to ask questions rather than be satisfied with the simple acceptance of new ideas. In addition to academic core classes, students build skills in foreign languages, fitness, and the fine and performing arts. Students also attend weekly Chapel service and periodic cultural enrichment assemblies featuring a variety of outside speakers. Our Middle School advisory program matches each student with a teacher who builds a close relationship with that student.
As an Equal Opportunity Employer and institution explicitly committed to nurturing a diverse community, St. Andrew's Episcopal School encourages applications from all qualified candidates and especially encourages applications from members of traditionally underrepresented groups in independent schools. The school offers a competitive benefits package, including extensive professional development and travel opportunities. More information about the school is available at www.gosaints.org.
