Dean's Office

Office of the Dean: School of Education

The Office of the Dean serves as the overarching administrative unit at the UM School of Education. With more than $13 million in external research funding and a presence at five campuses throughout North Mississippi, the School of Education is home to more than 1,700 undergraduate and/or graduate students and 106 faculty members.

Our office has spearheaded initiatives to establish innovative new programs such as the Mississippi Excellence in Teaching Program as well as new curricula in early childhood education, health and physical activity and more. As Mississippi’s largest producer of teachers and educational leaders, the school has been accredited by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and the Mississippi Department of Education since 1954.

What We Do

The Dean's Office is the central hub for all that happens within the School of Education and its associated entities. Some responsibilities of the Dean's Office include being a(n):

  • Information Center: Students, faculty, and staff all gravitate towards the Dean's Office for official information, updates, and liaison between where you are to where you want to be. It's the place to go if you don't know where to start or who to talk to first. Whether you're a new face or a returning one, our staff are here to help!

  • Collaboration Space: The Dean's Office staff work to collaborate with prospective students, current students, alumni, and fellow faculty and staff to ensure the passion for education thrives. With the latest technology and research-based practices, the office champions collaborative learning between the SOE and Oxford-Lafayette schools through student internships and professional development workshops. This multi-layered approach fosters a dynamic environment where faculty expertise is maximized, students gain valuable research and teamwork skills, and the School of Education stays connected to the evolving needs of the communities it serves.
  • Community Connector: The Dean's Office fosters connections between the School of Education and the wider Oxford community. The Dean's Office works with other SOE Departments to organize outreach programs and partner with local schools in an effort to maintain good relationships with schools and be in-the-know about current educational challenges. By being knowledgeable of modern classroom challenges and equipping future teachers to improve those challenges, the Dean's Office is a bridge between the academic and real world.
