The Alabama Association of School Boards has been hired to conduct a search for the next superintendent of the Tallassee City Schools system. This system is seeking an experienced education leader with strong interpersonal skills and a vision to raise the school system's already strong student performance to the next level.

The Search for a Proven Leader

The Tallassee Board of Education is seeking a strong instructional leader to serve as its next superintendent. The successful candidate will be expected to increase academic achievement and the graduation rate as well as to strengthen the working environment for employees. Other desired traits include:

• Ability to think outside the box;
• Ability to work with the board to create a vision for the system and to unite the staff and community around that vision;
• Ability to work with the entire board effectively;
• Strong financial management skills; and
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Qualifications:

Alabama law requires the superintendent be chosen for general fitness and character and be knowledgeable in school administration. The successful applicant also must have or be eligible for the appropriate certification to serve as a superintendent in Alabama and must hold a degree from a recognized four-year college or university. A master's degree is required.

In addition, the board requires that the superintendent be:

• A leader with unquestionable integrity;
• Committed to providing students and staff the resources necessary to reach their full potential;
• Able to communicate and work with diverse community groups; and
• Have at least three years' experience in school administration.

The successful candidate will be expected to live in the greater Tallassee area within a reasonable period after his or her appointment to the position.
